John Hodgman consults with the youngest person in the room to decided to decide what cultural references to keep in his act.
Got to see John Hodgman‘s new act on the road with Paul and Storm over at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Va. I’ve seen Hodgman perform before for his book tours, but after hearing about his new standup routine on WTF, I’ve been wanting to see it. Well DC is not that far away. Or at least not that far away for someone who used to drive for a living. As an added bonus Paul and Storm were performing there. I hadn’t seen them live since PAX. The one where everyone died from swine flu.
You should check out their show Learning Town.

It was really good though a little jarring at first that I had not read any of the material before hand, because it was all new. The only part from That Is All was the wine tasting bit.

Though wine doesn’t bring out the best in John Hodgman (yes, it does).

John Hodgman finished out the night by reprising his role as Ayn Rand from his performance on the Dead Authors Podcast with Paul F Tompkins.

The Wayward Girls School of Burlesque really blew the Blue Parrot away with their St. Patrick’s Day show. Should really be keeping up with them, and their hijinks in Charleston and beyond. They’ve got shows coming up in June, and as their official creepy Uncle I can tell you it’s going to be great. Photoset featuring Penny Maple, Susie Sketchman, Pepper Fandango, Cat Schrodinger, Kitty Killton, Lilli Legosi, Leo Tuxedo, Ruby Rouge, Lavender Menace, and Elle Xohmbeah.

I’ve been sitting on these for a while. It’s shameful. Maybe I could use the excuse that I was waiting for the new Lightroom Beta 5. Yeah, that’s it! This is the first set I’ve edited with Lightroom 5. The only real difference is the use of their new radial mask, which was a quick and easy way to apply a dodge/burn like effects without messing with the brushes or opening Photoshop. I’m all about not opening Photoshop. Anyway enough rambling – time for Qiet.
If you’re reading this then the End didn’t happen today. Or not on any timeline that I am patient enough. The Apocalypse that no one this side of TLC didn’t think would happen well didn’t happen. The most logical reason is that Nick Nolte (Quezocoatl) finally deemed us all to be worthy of existence and has held back the horseman for at least another year.

So before the Christmas traffic drop, I’d like to wish everyone a Happy whatever they would like. Here’s a card.

If you didn’t get a holiday card from me this year or last year, feel free to click through the image above, download a copy, and print it. I’m cool with that. Below are a few of the other takes we did with Belli in an attempt to get that card ready.
And to make your holidays even better here’s that Jonathan Coulton and John Hodgman slash you were too afraid to ask Santa.

You see the End has already come and gone.

The end of this year’s season of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School: Charleston. We’re going to get started again this March, and I’m sure the next season will be even better. In fact since I like you guys, here’s the rest of the Ragnarok session under the Cut.

I had the privilege of shooting with the Wayward Girls School of Burlesque before their big holiday blowout this Sunday (December the 8th). I found them in their private cemetery in South Charleston, and photos should speak for themselves. Featuring Penny Maple, Pepper Fandango, Elle Xohmbeah, Kitty Killton, Lilli Legosi, Leo Tuxedo, Susie Sketchman, and Ruby Rouge.

More under the cut and more over on SmugMug. Careful, it’s NSFW.
